The Department of Physics is one of the oldest Departments of GDC Memorial College. The Department of Physics in GDC Memorial College was established in the year 2011. The department was set up essentially to teach physics in the B.Sc. General course (Non-medical and computer science). There are 80 intakes in B.Sc. in computer science and 160 in B.Sc. non-medical. Gradually the department started growing and in the year 2014, the college started the M.Sc. Physics (General) course, which was to be mainly run by the department of physics. In M.Sc., there are 60 seats. The Teachers are not only the “Mentors”, but also the “Friends”, on whom students can depend in hour of need.

All this was accomplished by the department with the pioneering efforts of the then Principal of the college Dr. S. K. Mishra.
